About SalaryData
Our Mission
SalaryData.info provides transparent, data-driven salary information to help workers, job seekers, and employers make informed compensation decisions. We believe salary information should be publicly accessible and easy to understand.
Our Data Sources
Unlike many salary sites that rely on self-reported surveys, all data on SalaryData.info comes from authoritative government sources:
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) OES
The Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program surveys 1.1 million business establishments annually, covering 800+ occupations across all 50 states. This is the gold standard for state-level salary data.
H-1B LCA Disclosure Data (OFLC)
The U.S. Department of Labor publishes all H-1B Labor Condition Application (LCA) filings, covering 600,000+ wage submissions per year. This data provides city-level granularity and employer-specific salary information.
U.S. Census Bureau ACS
The American Community Survey provides supplementary data on local cost of living, enabling us to calculate purchasing-power-adjusted salary comparisons across cities.
Methodology
- State-level data comes directly from BLS OES annual surveys
- City-level data is aggregated from H-1B filings with a minimum of 10 records per city/occupation pair
- Wage values are annualized (hourly rates × 2,080 hours)
- Only approved (Certified) H-1B cases are included
- Data is updated annually following BLS release (typically May) and quarterly following OFLC updates
